In John gospel we read, Jesus speaking, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
It’s absolutely clear, the gate to life is Jesus. He didn’t refer to Himself as a sign or an administrator in the way, He was crystal, “I am the way.”
Now, I want you to think about that for a moment. How many times have we confessed that He is the way with our mouths, but our actions didn’t align accordingly? In other words, when we’ve been hurt by someone, or a situation, we we’re quicker to go our way, and speak to others about our pain, the injustice, the unfairness of it all, rather than the go to God first, and to those directly involved, to pursue unity, reconciliation – His way? Even though I may confess that He is the way, my life, our lives, are the true expression of that.
You see, the name of Jesus gives us access to the abundant, overflowing, eternal life. And when we surrender our life to Him, we surrender our lives to His way. Which means, in every, and all situations, we are to live according to His Word, not according to our way, our wants.
So, to access and enjoy His life, the life only Jesus came bring about, we have to believe that He is the way, the right way, the only way (Matthew 7:13–14), and live accordingly.
My friends, we will face obstacles in life – obstacles of misunderstandings, misfortunes, and mishaps. And in each of these times, we stand before a way of opportunity or a way of oppression – just depending on how we will choose to respond.
Our hopes then, for the future He offers, is dependent upon this one truth – “I am the way.” Thus, the path that leads to the place He is calling and wanting for us, is fully dependent in and on this one truth. The name of Jesus is the narrow gate, the only way, that leads to the abundant life, and we can access it every time if we embrace His words.
If there is something I am learning at a deeper level, it’s that my name has limitations. There’s not much I have to offer of value in and of my name. Thus, when I rashly choose to live according to my ideas, my emotions, my way, my influence, and witness, for the sake of Christ, is greatly constrained, as well as, many other things. But when I embrace, that He is the WAY, and that His way is the only way to live, my influence and witness is elevated to eternal levels.
