I was laying in bed the other night pondering the church - what it should look like, and what it is to be about? As my mind was mulling this over, one word kept coming up again and again – RELATIONSHIPS.
So, I got up and wrote down these three following thoughts.
1. Relationships should be more important than any differences.
2. Our witness should be more important than any wrongs done to one another.
3. Our future should matter a whole lot more than any immediate grievances committed.
Imagine if we were committed to these. For the Bible says, “Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
“Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32).
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that we are His disciples” (John 13:35).
Over and over, the Bible speaks of the promises and the premises of God-love - a love for one another and HOW we are to live it out with each other.
You see, our relationships with each other are a BIG thing. And I am committed to believe that THEY are what the church is all about. For it is not in Bible knowledge - though we need to study, memorize, and learn of It. It is not in serving - though such is the posture we need to take. It is not in giving – though Paul tells us it is better to give than receive. No. Though all of these are important, it is in how we live together – relationships – is what the church needs to be about.
So, how are you doing? May this be our focus in 2021.
