“Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way…so…open up your lives. Live openly and expansively” (2 Corinthians 6:11-13, The Message).
Over the years, I have met so many people who think their lives don’t make a difference. They see themselves as small and insignificant. And if I’m honest, I too, at times, have felt that way.
However, smallness, feeling insignificant, is not from God. For you will never come in second by putting God first. Look what Solomon wrote, “In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success” (Proverbs 3:6).
Those are amazing words. When we put Him first, our lives are never second. In fact, according to this verse, they are anything but second. You see, in Christ, our lives become profoundly influential and have great, eternal purpose. Just because the world may not see it that way doesn’t make this any less true. It just means they don’t get it yet.
God’s hand on my life never makes me small, but rather, the exact opposite. And the Bible is full of promises that speak to the benefit of putting God first, and the influence that He will have in and of my life. The same is true of you.
When we surrender our life to Christ, God begins to do a work that others will take notice – and this is what I’m talking about. They begin see something different, something supernatural, a glimpse of who and what Jesus is. Sure, there will always be some who may try to silence you or shut you down. But for me, that only substantiates everything I’m saying – your life makes a difference – an eternal difference. And that’s not small.
So, may I encourage you, don’t think small or even believe you are insignificant. In Christ, you are a giant of the faith. So live large through the power of the Holy Spirit. Allow your life to be empowered accordingly. Love, as He loves. Live, as He lives. Large. Significant. Believing in Him, my life matters.
