What does it mean to be a follower of Christ? That’s a loaded question, isn’t it?
I think it would be safe to begin with Peter, Andrew, James, and John, and what it meant to them.
Well, first, these disciples, when they heard Jesus’ voice, obeyed without delay. The Bible says that they immediately followed Jesus. Following Jesus not only requires us to do what He says, but when He calls us, we respond right away.
Secondly, they all left something behind. These disciples abandoned the comforts of home, the security of a regular income, and all that was familiar. I’m not sure what that means for each of us, but what I do know, regardless, is that we must give up our lives to experience all that we pick up in Jesus.
Finally, they pursued His call passionately. Following Jesus wasn’t something they did, it became everything they were, and the same must be true for us. Remember, Jesus isn’t a piece of our earthly puzzle, He is the puzzle and everything in our life are the pieces that make it complete. Following Jesus wasn’t their living, it became their lifestyle.
